Why did you decide to go on the Yanayacu Research Trip?  I wanted to see the location, I was committed to teaching the course and I needed to scout the area for future projects.


What was the most important thing you learned?  That there are bears here.  I saw spectacled bear scat!  The bromeliad flora is less diverse than I expected.  I believe that it might be because of the lack of open habitat for seed because of the nonvascular plant load.

How has this experience changed you?    I hasn't.

What are your plans for the future?  I want to develop new projects for this area.  I will get permits and do some collecting.

What advice would you give a young scientist?  Develop a passion and work hard!
